Madrid: Day 1

On Saturday, November 5 we ventured out to visit El Prado, one of the world’s great art museums. El Prado houses wonderful collections of works from the 12th to the 19th centuries. We saw original masterpieces by Fra Angelico, Bosch, El Greco, Caravaggio, Rubens, Titian, Velázquez, Goya, and others. All of the paintings were beautifully preserved and restored. The lighting was exceptionally well done. The colors of even the oldest paintings had a freshness and brilliance that belied their age.

Across the street from El Prado, we saw the 16th-centrury church of San Jerónimo el Real.

We couldn’t go inside because a private event was in progress. We didn’t know what it was, but it was definitely upscale because we saw some really well-dressed people going in. We saw this Rolls Royce parked on the street outside of the church.
